LEGO in 2026 so far: every set released this year, by the numbers
771 sets carry a 2026 release date in the catalog right now, spread across 50 themes, totaling 394,162 pieces and 1,218 minifigures. The median set released this year runs 244 pieces, which tells you the bulk of 2026's output is ordinary-sized sets, not the giant anniversary pieces that grab headlines.
That count is not final. The year still has months to run, and new 2026 sets keep getting added to the catalog, so every figure here is a snapshot as of today rather than a closing total.
How 2026 stacks up against recent years
2024 finished with 779 sets. 2025 finished with 861, the bigger of the two. 2026 stands at 771 right now, close to 2024's final number and behind 2025's, but that gap is mostly a timing effect rather than a real slowdown. Not every set due to carry a 2026 date has been catalogued yet, so this number only moves upward from here.
2027 already has 1 set listed, which is normal for a year that hasn't started. Early listings for the next year typically show up a year or more ahead of release, then the real volume arrives once that year's catalog actually opens. The same thing happened to 2026 a year ago.
There's no way to say yet whether 2026 will end up closer to 2024's 779 or 2025's 861. What's clear is that 771 sets across 50 themes already makes this a full release year, not a quiet one, even before the final quarter's sets are all logged.
Which themes are doing the heavy lifting
50 themes have at least one 2026 set, which spreads the year's output pretty thin outside a handful of busy lines. The LEGO BrickLink Designer Program is unusually active this year, with fan-voted sets like Privateer Frigate Fortuna (910059), Sushi Restaurant (910060), Gold Mine Expedition (910055), Sequoia Tree Trail (910058), Outlaw Forest Den (910057), The Art Factory (910054) and Alchemist's Shop (910062) all carrying 2026 dates — seven sets from one niche program, several of them running past 2,500 pieces apiece.
LEGO Icons and LEGO Harry Potter each have multiple large sets this year too, and LEGO LEGO Art and LEGO Editions both show up twice in the year's biggest releases. For the full spread across all 50 themes, here's the breakdown.
A theme showing up on this list with one or two sets doesn't mean it's winding down — themes like LEGO Architecture and LEGO Modular Buildings tend to release only a handful of sets a year by design, so low counts there are normal rather than a sign of anything retiring.
The biggest sets of the year
The Lord of the Rings: Minas Tirith (11377) tops 2026 at 8,278 pieces with 12 minifigures, making it the largest LEGO Icons release of the year by a wide margin. Right behind it is Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise (72153) at 6,838 pieces in LEGO Pokémon, a set with no minifigures at all, followed by Executor Super Star Destroyer (75457) in LEGO Star Wars at 6,130 pieces and 7 minifigures.
The Old Town 15th Anniversary (71861) in LEGO Ninjago comes in at 4,852 pieces, and Downton Abbey (21373) from LEGO LEGO Ideas and CUUSOO sits at 4,712 pieces. Further down, LEGO Technic's Koenigsegg Sadair's Spear Megacar (42232) reaches 4,104 pieces with zero minifigures, which is typical for that theme's large builds.
Against a median of 244 pieces for the year, every set on that table is an outlier. Most of 2026's 771 sets are far smaller than these flagship builds — the big-box releases just happen to be the ones that get noticed first.
The sets packing in the most minifigures
Piece count and minifigure count don't move together. The Old Town 15th Anniversary (71861), the Ninjago anniversary set, leads 2026 with 24 minifigures on 4,852 pieces — more figures than sets nearly twice its size. Privateer Frigate Fortuna (910059) follows with 20 minifigures at 4,086 pieces, and Main Street, U.S.A. (43302) in LEGO Disney carries 16 minifigures across 3,899 pieces.
Sushi Restaurant (910060) and The Ministry of Magic – Collectors' Edition (76476) are tied at 15 minifigures apiece, and Hogwarts Castle: East Wing (76473) in LEGO Harry Potter adds 14 more on a comparatively modest 2,164 pieces. Several of the year's biggest sets by piece count, including Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise (72153), Koenigsegg Sadair's Spear Megacar (42232), Gustav Klimt – The Kiss (31221), Tower Bridge (21067) and Claude Monet – Bridge over a Pond of Water Lilies (31220), ship with zero minifigures, which is standard for display-focused Pokémon, Technic, Art and Architecture builds.
If you're after crowd scenes rather than square footage, this list is a better guide than the piece-count table above — several sets here don't crack 2026's top ten by size but dominate it by figure count.
All 771 of 2026's sets are 0 years old, so none are in a retirement window and none are listed as likely retired — LEGO doesn't publish retirement dates, and any such window here is just inferred from release year, with no price or value data attached to it. If you're tracking this year's catalog, treat the set and theme counts above as a floor, not a final tally, since 2026 still has sets left to add.
