LEGO Star Wars by the numbers: every set, every year
LEGO has released 1013 Star Wars sets between 1999 and 2026, totaling 426,762 pieces across the catalog. The median set runs 163 pieces, which tells you the theme is built mostly from small and mid-size sets, not just the giant anniversary models people remember.
Of those 1013 sets, 104 came out in the last two years, 100 sit in what we call the retirement window, and 809 are likely already retired. The theme LEGO Star Wars is still one of the most active in the current catalog, with 55 new sets logged for 2026 alone.
A theme that keeps expanding
Over 27 years, LEGO Star Wars has grown to 1013 sets, more than any single year's worth of most other themes. The 426,762 total pieces across the line mean the average release isn't small, but the median of 163 pieces shows the bulk of sets are polybags, battle packs, and compact starfighters rather than the display-case models.
That gap between average and median is the real story. A handful of sets, mostly Ultimate Collector Series builds, carry enormous piece counts and pull the average up. Everything else is quick builds aimed at playsets, minifigure packs, and gift-shop impulse buys.
The range of years matters too. Sets from 2002, like Imperial Star Destroyer (10030) at 3,116 pieces, sit alongside 2026 releases like Executor Super Star Destroyer (75457). The theme has never gone quiet long enough to lose momentum, which is unusual for a license this old.
It's also worth noting how spread out the catalog is across decades. A set from 2005 like Star Wars / M&M Mosaic - Promo Set (SWMP) at 5,462 pieces shows that oversized builds aren't a recent invention; they've appeared at nearly every stage of the theme's run.
The biggest builds in the theme
The largest Star Wars set in the catalog is Death Star (75419), a 2025 release running 9,031 pieces with 40 minifigures, the single biggest figure count on this list too. Close behind is Millennium Falcon (75192) from 2017 at 7,541 pieces, long treated as a benchmark for the theme's large-scale builds.
After that comes a run of large-scale vehicles: AT-AT (75313) at 6,785 pieces from 2021, The Razor Crest (75331) at 6,187 pieces from 2022, and Executor Super Star Destroyer (75457) at 6,130 pieces, the newest entry on this list for 2026. Each of these sits well above the theme's median of 163 pieces, by a factor of dozens.
Older sets hold their own too. Millennium Falcon (10179), from 2007, still sits at 5,198 pieces, and Death Star (10188) from 2008 comes in at 3,807. Scale has grown over time, but the theme has produced oversized builds in nearly every era, not just the last few years.
Further down the list, Death Star II (10143) from 2005 at 3,461 pieces and Sandcrawler (75059) from 2014 at 3,296 pieces show that the four-figure-piece-count tier has been populated consistently rather than clustering around any one release window.
Sets with the most minifigures
Piece count and minifigure count don't track together. Death Star (75159), released in 2016, carries 27 minifigures on 4,024 pieces, more figures than sets nearly twice its size. Death Star (10188) from 2008 isn't far off at 24 minifigures.
Crowd scenes explain the pattern. Mos Eisley Cantina (75290), from 2020, packs 21 minifigures into 3,187 pieces, and Trade Federation MTT (7662) from 2007 matches that figure count with just 1,326 pieces, making it the most figure-dense set on this list relative to its size.
Battle-pack style sets also show up here. Battle Droid Troop Carrier (75086) from 2015 holds 15 minifigures in only 565 pieces, and Assault on Hoth (75098) from 2016 carries 16 minifigures across 2,144 pieces. Both prove that minifigure count has little to do with overall scale in this theme.
Even recent releases keep the pattern going. Jabba's Sail Barge (75397) from 2024 comes with 10 minifigures on 3,943 pieces, a smaller ratio than the crowd-scene sets above but still well ahead of most large builds in the catalog.

Output by year
Star Wars set output isn't flat across its run. The busiest year is 2015 with 67 sets, followed by 2018 at 65 and 2017 at 63. 2016 and 2019 also cross the 55-set mark, at 61 and 58 respectively.
Recent years keep pace with that peak stretch. 2024 and 2026 both land at 55 sets, and 2025 sits at 49. That's five of the eight busiest years on record falling within the last decade, which tells you the theme hasn't slowed down even as it's aged.
The mid-2010s run from 2015 through 2019 alone accounts for a large share of the theme's total output, five consecutive years each topping 55 sets. No other stretch in the catalog matches that density.
The full year-by-year table below shows how consistent the output has been since the mid-2010s, rather than a single spike followed by a drop-off.
New releases and the retirement window
104 Star Wars sets have come out in the last two years, and 100 currently sit in the retirement window. LEGO doesn't publish retirement dates, so that window is inferred from release year alone, not from any price or availability signal, and there's no market data on this site to go with it.
The newest sets span a wide range of scale. The Mandalorian's N-1 Starfighter (75442), a 2026 release, runs 1,809 pieces, while Boba Fett (75455) from the same year is a single-minifigure display build at 1,544 pieces. Jango Fett's Firespray-Class Starship (75409) from 2025 adds 2,970 pieces and Jabba's Sail Barge (75397) from 2024 brings 3,943 pieces and 10 minifigures.
Other 2026 sets fill out the smaller end of the lineup: Offworld Sandcrawler and Mudhorn (75453) at 1,684 pieces, Imperial Remnant AT-AT with INT-4 (75454) at 1,453 pieces, and Grogu (Mandalorian Apprentice) (75446) at 1,200 pieces. Alongside them, AT-ST Walker (75417) and Battle Droid with STAP (75428) from 2025 sit at 1,513 and 1,088 pieces, rounding out a group that leans toward single or double-figure sets rather than large crowd scenes.
With 809 sets likely already retired out of 1013 total, most of the theme's history is behind it in terms of availability. What's left on shelves now and in the window just ahead is a small, current slice of a much larger catalog.

If you're tracking Star Wars for a collection rather than chasing everything, the 100 sets in the inferred retirement window and the 104 released in the last two years are the practical list to check against what you already own.
